Rumours are swirling that the online casino may be in line for another large purchase. The World Poker Tour, America’s largest televised poker tour have had a dire financial year. The UIGEA effectively outlawed casino games online in America, a move which cost the industry billions of dollars. The WPT in particular have been badly affected.

bwin are a Euro focussed company, offering their online casino software in a variety of languages. Their purchase of the WPT, a very US-centric business, may seem like an odd fit – but it could provide a valuable marketing tool if the UIEGA were to be repealed. The WPT also has potential to expand further into European markets, as it is not currently shown on television outside the US.

WPT representatives confirmed that they had spoken to a number of online casino companies about the prospect of a sale, but refused to confirm the names of those companies. bwin have had limited dealings with the WPT, but did recently set up a deal which allowed Italian fans to make online casino bets on a tournament held in the country. Even if the sale does not go through, bwin will continue to be on of Europe’s most prominent online casinos.
